PHF Electrical was formed by current partner Paul Faulkner in January 1984.  At the time it was just one man and his van carrying out small electrical jobs, however within the first twelve months of trading the workforce had increased to three.  At this point we were carrying out jobs for companies like Gates Group Ford Dealers and Britvics Chelmsford. Whilst keeping our electrical base, we started entering into the fire alarm industry.

In 1987, the Kings Cross fire showed that the country was not taking fire safety seriously, and from this our next large projects, with McMillan Fire, were Paddington Station, Waterloo Station and Barkers of Kensington. While carrying on our electrical works for McMillan Fire, we started working with Protec Fire Detection PLC. Our first major project with them was 54 Lombard Street (Barclays Bank HQ) and from there we installed Midland Bank HQ at No.1 Poultry, The Scottish and Welsh  Offices in Whitehall, Seacontainers House (the VAT office) and the Athenian Hotel.  To this day we are still working on major jobs such as The Tate Modern Project.

By 2000 with our vast amount of experience we had a strong workforce of 24 and had just completed installations at various exhibitions in the Millennium Dome. At this stage we also then began carrying out our own installations and installations for other electrical companies as their specialist fire alarm installer. These were jobs including B&Q Warehouse Branston, Jackson Square Shopping Centre Bishop's Stortford and William Armes Sudbury.

In 2004-2005, we carried out two large projects, The first was a completely new fire alarm system at Barkers of Kensington, consisting of seven fire alarm panels with 1,450 trigger devices and three VESDA systems. The second was a completely new system at the BT Tower working with Chubb. Both of these projects took in the region of 18 months to complete.

To date we still retain our relationships with the fire alarm manufacturers and electrical contractors and are completing more of our own projects. Below are some more recent jobs carried out.

  • Suffolk One Ipswich - A large college consisting of four fire alarm panels and nine VESDA panels

  • Canada Water Library

  • The Forum, Southend on Sea

  • Kelvedon Fire Brigade HQ

  • Moat House Care Home, Great Dunmow

  • Dance East, Ipswich

  • Bexhill Collage

  • HMR Coniston House
